A common fraud scheme used by fraudsters is the 'Fraud Alert from PayPal' scheme. The victim will receive an email or text message from PayPal delivering them an invoice for a recent PayPal purchase. A large amount will likely be included with the message along with the statement, "Don't recognize this invoice?" You are instructed to call a number to report the transaction if you don't recognize the purchase. Of course, you won't recognize the purchase! You never made it to begin with. But that's what the fraudsters want you to think. They want you to call the number. Once you do, they will ask for your personal information, putting on a stellar performance, making you believe that they plan on saving the day. But instead of helping you, they set the hook on the elaborate scheme and take control of your account. Take a look at this article posted by AARP.
