How To Spot, Avoid and Report Tech Support Scams

Tech support scams trick people into believing their computer has a serious issue, often through unsolicited calls, fake pop-up warnings, or misleading online ads. Scammers impersonate technicians, request remote access, and demand payment via hard-to-reverse methods like gift cards or cryptocurrency. To avoid these scams, remember that legitimate tech companies won’t contact you unexpectedly or ask you to call a number from a pop-up. If you suspect a problem, update your security software and seek help from trusted sources. If you’ve been scammed, act quickly—contact your bank, change passwords, and run a security scan. Also beware of fake refund offers, which are just another ploy to steal your money.
